We believe the underside of the tray was intended to be a folding support that elevated the tray at about 30".  In this "buy" we did not receive the folding tray.  The tray itself is a very good quality of teak and the design is solid.  We also received a few lattice serving tray's.  Take a look at both.  Shipping is a flat $19.
